GRID (distributed computing) technology is the form of usage distributed computer resources when very large tasks are performed by using research network infrastructure of several countries. Currently existence of the developed GRID infrastructure is necessary for the participation in most of large scale international projects. This technology is actively used in high energy physics, astrophysics, meteorology, climate change studies, biology, medicine and demand is increasing constantly.

In 2009 GRENA established the first GRID cluster in Georgia, which is incorporated in the European GRID Infrastructure (EGI). Additional information concerning EGI can be found at - http://www.egi.eu/ . Operation of GRID cluster at GRENA gives possibility of using computer resources of European countries.

GRENA enables researchers that have tasks (such as intensive research and development calculations) requiring very large computational resources to use European GRID infrastructure.
